Agricultural economist, university teacher and senior policy expert for the governments of Saskatchewan and Alberta, Faycal Haggui will be the NDP’s candidate for Regina Gardiner Park.
Haggui, a married father of three young children, was nominated by New Democrats in the Regina Gardiner Park constituency on Wednesday evening.
“Faycal is an economist who never loses sight of the real goals of a strong economy – it’s not just about the province doing well, it’s about people doing well,” said NDP Leader Cam Broten. “He’s going to be an excellent representative for Regina Gardiner Park families, and a strong voice in the Legislature for building a sustainable economy that works for families all across Saskatchewan.”
Haggui holds a doctorate in Agricultural Economics from the University of Saskatchewan. He also holds a master’s degree in Economics and Management from the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania in Greece. He was born in Tunisia, has lived in Alberta and Saskatchewan and been settled in Regina Gardiner Park for more than 16 years. He and his wife, Jean, have three young children.
“I am committed to ensuring that all Saskatchewan families are able to benefit from Saskatchewan’s wealth,” said Haggui. “The cost of living for families and seniors in Saskatchewan is important, and so is repairing the services we all count on. We have long emergency room wait times and hallway medicine is becoming more common in crowded hospitals. Seniors care is in crisis. Schools have large and growing class sizes that can’t give kids the one-on-one attention they need.
“It doesn’t have to be this way. I believe in Cam Broten’s vision and commitment to make a difference where it really matters to people, and I want to be a part of that change for Saskatchewan families and for Saskatchewan’s future.”
