Cathy Sproule will not seek re-election in 2020

December 13, 2018

Saskatoon – Saskatoon Nutana NDP MLA Cathy Sproule is announcing that she plans to retire as an MLA at the next provincial election.

Cathy Sproule was elected to represent the constituency of Saskatoon Nutana in November 2011 and was re-elected in 2016. She worked as a lawyer for the federal government as an aboriginal law specialist prior to being elected.

Cathy has enjoyed the honour of representing her neighbours as their voice in the Legislature. She has served as the opposition critic in countless roles, including: Finance, Environment, Justice, Agriculture and the Global Transportation Hub (GTH).

In her time as critic for the GTH, Cathy has demonstrated her incredible work ethic, her research skills and her tenacity in the search for the truth despite the government’s obfuscations and deflections.

Sproule said, “I believe strongly in the leadership of Ryan Meili and his vision to build a healthier province where everyone does better. I look forward to working alongside Ryan and the NDP team for the next two years and doing my part to elect Ryan as the next Premier of Saskatchewan. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as an MLA and I look forward to pursing other opportunities.”

NDP Leader Ryan Meili said, “Cathy Sproule is a principled, passionate and articulate advocate for the truth. We are all better off for her involvement in our party and our province, and I wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”
