Danielle Chartier is the NDP candidate for Saskatoon Riversdale.
Danielle Chartier was first elected MLA for Saskatoon Riversdale in a by-election in 2009. She was re-elected in 2011 and 2016.
She and her two daughters are proud to call the constituency of Saskatoon Riversdale home. Danielle has deeps roots in the community with her grandparents’ raising her dad here, and her own parents choosing to do the same with their seven children. It was her parents’ involvement in the community that would inspire Danielle’s interest in politics and in serving the community herself.
After graduating from journalism school, Danielle worked as a reporter for more than a decade on daily newspapers in Saskatoon and Moose Jaw, as well as on weekly newspapers and monthly magazines.
She later returned to school and obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Regina. Following that, Danielle worked for the Saskatchewan Department of Labour’s Work and Family Unit for nearly three years where her passion for supporting families grew even stronger. She has continued to further her education and is almost finished a master’s degree from the Johnson-Shoyama School of Public Policy.
Danielle has worked on projects for a number of community organizations including the Saskatchewan Association for Community Living, Catholic Family Services of Saskatoon and the Children’s Discovery Museum on the Saskatchewan. In 2011, she was the founding co-chair of Equal Voice Saskatchewan, a multi-partisan organization dedicated to the election of more women to all levels of government. As well, she has served on Saskatoon’s Animal Control Advisory Committee.
