Address the Mental Health and Addictions Crisis

Saskatchewan has a mental health and addictions crisis:

  • Saskatchewan has the highest suicide rate in the country.
  • The suicide rate for Indigenous people in Saskatchewan is 4 times higher than for non-Indigenous people.
  • Saskatchewan continues to break its own record in overdose deaths, with 484 suspected or confirmed overdose deaths in 2023.
  • 1 in 4 youth in Saskatchewan have reported having engaged in self-harm.
  • 1 in 4 youth have reported having considered suicide in the past year.
  • The Child and Youth Advocate in her 2022 report noted that long wait times and inadequate mental health and addictions services are leaving many children and youth without access to care when they need it.

We need the government to work with experts and community leaders on evidence-based solutions to the mental health and addictions crisis in Saskatchewan
