New Democrats select Parenteau to be their candidate in Prince Albert Carlton for 2020

April 25, 2019

PRINCE ALBERT – The Saskatchewan New Democrats in the Prince Albert Carlton constituency have chosen educator Troy Parenteau to be their candidate for the next provincial election. Parenteau won a contested nomination in Prince Albert this evening.

“As a teacher, I am proud to stand as a New Democrat against the devastating cuts we’ve seen to our classrooms,” said Parenteau. “New Democrats put people first, and I’ll be working tirelessly to earn the support of the people of Prince Albert Carlton.”

Troy was born and raised in Prince Albert and works as a teacher of children in Mental Health and Addictions Treatment Centres. He is incredibly active in the community, having served on several boards and committees, including the Urban Aboriginal Strategy, Urban Multipurpose Youth Activity Centres, Prince Albert Pride, Prince Albert Community Players, Prince Albert Indian and Métis Friendship Centres, and Impact Youth Conference for Sustainability.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Troy to our 2020 team,” said NDP Leader Ryan Meili. “As a teacher he understands the challenges facing our kids’ classrooms and how much hurt the Sask. Party cuts have inflicted on our young people.”

Parenteau is the thirteenth candidate nominated for the Saskatchewan NDP for the 2020 provincial election. The next nomination meeting will take place on April 30, 2019, for Regina Coronation Park.
