Aleana Young will be the NDP candidate in Regina University

Regina Public School Board trustee Aleana Young has been chosen by New Democrats in Regina University to be their candidate in the next provincial election.

“Aleana is a fantastic candidate, especially because of her deep belief that Saskatchewan can be so much better for everyday families, students and seniors,” said Cam Broten, Leader of Saskatchewan’s New Democrats. “After a decade of resource wealth, we should have the best education system in the nation. But, because this government has neglected education and wasted our resource wealth elsewhere, our kids are left with crowded classrooms and run down schools. Students have faced serious cuts to educational assistant help, and as the number of new Canadians in classrooms grows, the government has cut English as an Additional Language supports.

“I know we can do better. I know Saskatchewan’s kids deserve better. And, I know Aleana is passionate about fighting for the right solutions.”

Tanya Dunn-Pierce chosen as NDP candidate in Saskatoon Churchill-Wildwood

Tanya Dunn-Pierce has been chosen by New Democrats in the Saskatoon Churchill-Wildwood constituency to be their candidate in the next election.

“Tanya is going to be a fantastic MLA,” said NDP Leader Cam Broten, who attended the nomination meeting Thursday evening. “She’s been an effective force in her community work – building opportunities for families to access health care services, affordable housing and opportunity. As an MLA, she’s going to be an advocate who gets things done for the people of Saskatoon Churchill-Wildwood, and for all Saskatchewan families.”

Regina Lakeview New Democrats nominate Carla Beck

Carla Beck, assistant executive director of a Regina women’s shelter and elected trustee for the Regina Public School Board, will be the New Democrats’ candidate in Regina Lakeview for the next provincial election.

Beck was nominated Tuesday at a contested nomination meeting.

“Through her volunteer work, her service to the school board and her career as a social worker, Carla has already contributed so much as a community leader,” said NDP Leader Cam Broten, who attended the nomination. “The Legislature and Lakeview families will benefit from her expertise, dedication and compassion, and I’m so pleased to welcome her to the team of NDP candidates.

New Democrats nominate Zaigham Kayani

New Democrats in the Saskatoon Silverspring-Sutherland constituency have chosen journalist and business owner Zaigham Kayani to be their candidate in the next provincial election.

Kayani, who is also president of the Pakistan Canada Cultural Association, was nominated Monday at a nomination meeting at St. Paul’s United Church.

“Zaigham is passionate about ensuring all people have the building blocks that give them a chance to fulfill their potential and really get ahead – starting with a strong education and excellent, accessible health care,” said NDP Leader Cam Broten, who attended the nomination meeting. “For me, politics isn’t just about the province doing well, it’s about people doing well. That’s a mission I know Zaigham is committed to, and his belief that all people deserve a fair chance at success is one of the motivations that will make him an excellent MLA.”

Saskatoon Meewasin selects Nicole White as NDP candidate

Nicole White has been nominated by New Democrats in Saskatoon Meewasin to be their candidate in the next provincial election.

 

“Nicole is a true community champion and will make a great MLA for the people of Saskatoon Meewasin,” said NDP Leader Cam Broten. “Throughout her career and her volunteer work, she’s been absolutely tireless about making our city and our province a better place for everyone to live. She’s already been widely recognized throughout Saskatchewan for her work and the determination and compassion she brings to it, and I look forward to all that she will accomplish as an MLA.”

 

Michael Karras will be NDP’s candidate in Saskatoon Southeast

Vice-principal and special education teacher Michael Karras has been chosen by New Democrats in the Saskatoon Southeast constituency to be their candidate in the next provincial election.

"I’m so pleased to welcome Michael to the team of New Democrat candidates," said NDP Leader Cam Broten, who spoke at Sunday’s Saskatoon Southeast nomination meeting. "He’s devoted his life to Saskatchewan’s future, through his work as a teacher, through his volunteer work and, of course, as a dad. His future-focused attitude and his commitment to stand up for what matters to Saskatchewan people today will make Michael a strong representative for Saskatoon Southeast families."

Regina Rochdale chooses Brett Estey to be NDP candidate

New Democrats living in Regina Rochdale in the city’s northwest have selected Brett Estey to be their NDP candidate in the next provincial election.

NDP Leader Cam Broten attended the nomination meeting to welcome Estey to the team.

"Brett grew up in Rochdale, he lives here and he will be a strong voice for the families in the community," said Broten. "With a huge passion for giving young people in the Rochdale area the opportunities they deserve, Brett is going to be a tireless fighter for improving education."

Shayne Lazarowich chosen to run in Prince Albert Carlton

Shayne Lazarowich, executive director of the Prince Albert Multicultural Council (PAMC), will be the NDP’s candidate in Prince Albert Carlton in the next provincial election.

 

Lazarowich was chosen by New Democrats in the constituency in a contested nomination vote Thursday evening.

 

“Shayne will be an excellent MLA for Prince Albert Carlton families,” said NDP Leader Cam Broten, who attended the nomination meeting and welcomed Lazarowich to the team of NDP candidates. Broten pointed to Prince Albert families’ need for better representation."

 

Melville-Saltcoats New Democrats nominate Leonard Dales

New Democrats in the Melville-Saltcoats constituency nominated farmer and health-facility maintenance power engineer Leonard Dales as the NDP candidate in the next provincial election.

Dales was selected as the candidate at a contested nomination meeting Saturday afternoon.

“I’m so pleased to welcome Leonard to our team of candidates,” said NDP Leader Cam Broten. “He knows the community, and he cares about the things that really matter to families in this area, like developing a comprehensive anti-flooding strategy, repairing highways, fixing the basics in hospitals and seniors care homes, and ensuring that government stops adding to the cost-of-living squeeze that so many families are struggling with.”
