The Sask. Party’s cuts and claw backs in education are hitting the classrooms of Saskatchewan kids across the province, and school divisions are being forced to eliminate teachers and support staff.
“The Sask. Party cuts have resulted in big class sizes and fewer teachers, support workers, and programs in classrooms in Regina and right across the province,” said NDP Education Critic Carla Beck. “There’s no way around it, these cuts and eliminations will have a significant impact on the care and quality of education our kids get and parents of special needs children will be left scrambling to find new pre-kindergarten options.”
Adding to the cuts School Boards have been forced to make in the wake of the Sask. Party budget, this week, Prairie South cut bus services. Also, the Regina Public School Board announced the elimination of 22 teaching positions, the cancellation of programs, and the closure of pre-kindergarten for special needs children due to a massive funding shortfall as a result of the Sask. Party’s cuts to education in the spring budget.
“By making these deep cuts at the same time as there are hiking education taxes, the Sask. Party are forcing Saskatchewan people pay more and get less for their kids,” said Beck. “Instead of making Saskatchewan teachers and our kids pay the price, the Sask. Party needs to accept responsibility for their own mismanagement, scandal and waste.”
REGINA—The Saskatchewan New Democrats set the rules and timing for a leadership contest at Provincial Council on February 26th. The new leader will be elected at a leadership convention in Regina in late June, 2022.
All Saskatchewan New Democratic Party members in good standing will be eligible to vote online or by mail-in ballot.
