SCOTT MOE NEEDS TO ANSWER TO THE PEOPLE OF SASKATOON ABOUT THE CRISIS AT ROYAL UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL

SASKATOON – Today, the Saskatchewan NDP called on Scott Moe and the Sask. Party to explain how they pushed the Royal University Hospital (RUH) emergency room to the brink.

The Saskatchewan Union of Nurses (SUN) raised the alarm as the RUH ER surged to over 350 per cent capacity just this week. SUN said more than a dozen patient beds were put in the hallway and the ER ran out of oxygen and other critical, lifesaving equipment.

“Scott Moe needs to explain how he allowed this to happen on his watch,” said Vicki Mowat, Saskatchewan NDP candidate for Saskatoon Fairview. “He broke our healthcare system. How can the people of Saskatchewan trust him to fix this crisis after he’s done nothing for years?

“Our Saskatoon emergencies are overrun and understaffed, leaving families to fend for themselves,” said Vicki Mowat. “For a hospital to run out of oxygen and stretchers and patient overflow is unacceptable.”

A Saskatchewan NDP government would relieve the pressure on healthcare workers and families by opening the Saskatoon City Hospital ER 24/7 as well as recruit and retain more healthcare workers.

Scott Moe and the Sask. Party has spent years starving our hospitals — Saskatchewan is in last place on healthcare because they put us there. The people of Saskatchewan deserve better.”
