BECK AND SASKATCHEWAN NDP WILL BUILD A NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN MOOSE JAW
Beck commits to lowering the cost of groceries, hiring more doctors and nurses in first Moose Jaw stop of campaign
MOOSE JAW – Today, Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck was joined by former Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert and local Moose Jaw candidates to announce her plan to invest in Moose Jaw, lower costs for families and get Saskatchewan out of last place on healthcare and education.
“Moose Jaw is an incredible place, full of potential and opportunity. We have remarkable candidates in Moose Jaw — Melissa Patterson and Cheantelle Fisher — who will be strong advocates,” said Beck. “After 17 years of Scott Moe and the Sask. Party, we’ve fallen to last place in education and healthcare. Families deserve a government that will ensure their kids have a place to learn and get the care they need.”
Under Scott Moe and the Sask. Party, Moose Jaw families have seen no relief for their sky-high cost of gas and groceries, and are plagued with crumbling schools and emergency room closures. A Saskatchewan NDP government will suspend the gas tax right away and cut the PST on groceries and children’s clothing to lower costs.
In addition, Beck laid out her plan to get us out of last place in education:
- A new elementary school in Moose Jaw to replace St. Michael School — construction to begin in 2025;
- Hire more teachers and education workers to ensure every child has the attention and support they need;
- Respect teachers, school boards and education workers and work with them as partners to improve education and address classroom size and complexity.
“I’m hearing from Moose Jaw residents about how hard it is to keep up with rising prices and Scott Moe and the Sask. Party just don’t seem interested in helping,” said Melissa Patterson, Saskatchewan NDP candidate for Moose Jaw Wakamow. “They’re not better off than they were 17 years ago as Scott Moe sits back and does nothing. People deserve a government that fights for them.”
“We used to have the best funded schools in the country, but now under Scott Moe and the Sask. Party, we’re last,” added Cheantelle Fisher, Saskatchewan NDP candidate for Moose Jaw North. “If elected, we’ll reverse Scott Moe’s cuts on education and healthcare. New Democrats have a plan to get Saskatchewan out of last place. It’s time for change.”
