BECK PROMISES CHANGE IN THE NORTH AS SHE WRAPS NORTHERN OUTREACH
BUFFALO NARROWS – Today, Carla Beck wrapped up her Tour for Change in the North by announcing a new K-12 school for Buffalo Narrows and standing with healthcare workers and Deputy-Mayor for Île-à-la-Crosse promising to get Saskatchewan’s healthcare out of last place and to build northern healthcare capacity.
“The North has so much potential and opportunity and it’s time for a government that recognizes those opportunities and invests in our northern communities. It’s time for change,” said Beck. “The North needs a voice in government. Not a government voice in the North. We’ve got two amazing candidates who will deliver the change so many people are looking for.
Beck announced that, as Premier, a Saskatchewan NDP government would invest in building a new K-12 school for Buffalo Narrows, where students are currently learning in a school that was built in the 1960s, with additions from the 1980s.
“I visited this school a couple months ago,” said Beck. “After meeting with all the amazing staff, it’s clear that the community needs a new school. Parts of the school don’t even have running water while the local Sask. Party MLA is nowhere to be seen. All talk, no action. It’s time for change.”
While standing outside of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Île-à-la-Crosse, Beck promised to work with healthcare workers and northern communities to ensure that they have access to healthcare when and where they need it. Beck's plan is to upgrade part-time and casual positions to full-time positions, to better attract and retain workers and launch a Grow Your Own strategy to train and upgrade local healthcare workers in the northern communities where they live.
Speaking directly on northern healthcare, Beck stated: “Help is on the way.” “I know just how hard our healthcare workers are working but they need help. We’re ready to work with northern leaders and work with our healthcare workers to ensure that when you need the healthcare system, it is there for you.” “We’ll help train up our northern youth and create more opportunities to work in northern communities. The North deserves a real partner in government. I promise to be that partner. Saskatchewan, it's time for change.”
