Gas cheaper in Manitoba since the province suspended their gas tax
Beck commits to providing Saskatchewan residents with the same savings on Day 1 of government
Saskatoon - Today, Saskatchewan NDP candidate for Saskatoon Eastview Matt Love committed Carla Beck will suspend the Gas Tax on Day 1 of an NDP government and released data showing the move would drive down prices for drivers as it has in Manitoba.
“Every day we hear from folks struggling with rising costs. Gas and groceries are at the top of that list. We’ve got a plan to save you money on Day 1," said Love.
“Saskatchewan families have been struggling for years while Scott Moe and the Sask. Party sat back and did nothing to help. We’ve been calling for Scott Moe to give drivers a break for months and he has refused to cut the gas tax. He even voted against it in the legislature.”
Ever since Manitoba took steps to save their residents money and suspended their gas tax on January 1, 2024, Manitoba’s gas prices have consistently been cheaper than Saskatchewan’s, saving drivers an average of 21 cents per litre, according to analysis from GasBuddy.com.
Love noted that the Manitoba NDP also cut their gas tax in the first days of their government.
The Saskatchewan NDP have also committed to several other measures to reduce costs for Saskatchewan's families, including removing the PST on groceries and kids’ clothing.
“Saskatchewan deserves a government that’s going to give you the help you need, when you need it,” Love said. “Our plan will provide relief immediately.
It’s time for a government that gets it, a government that cares. On October 28th, the people of Saskatchewan can vote for Carla Beck and the Saskatchewan NDP. It’s time for change.”
