Today is the 75th anniversary of the historic election that first swept Tommy Douglas into government in Saskatchewan. The NDP is celebrating Douglas’ legacy and 75 years of putting people first across the province.

“Tommy Douglas will forever be known as the father of medicare and one of the all-time greatest Canadians. As a doctor and the leader of the party that bears Tommy’s legacy, I’m inspired every day by the positive impact that his people-first vision has had on families all across our province,” said NDP Leader Ryan Meili.

Clarke to be candidate in Indian Head-Milestone for 2020

Jared Clarke will be the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party candidate for the upcoming 2020 provincial election in the constituency of Indian Head-Milestone. Clarke won a contested nomination over Jackie Lazar, an accountant and former farmer, in front of a crowd of local New Democrats in Balgonie this evening.

“I’m running because I am deeply concerned about the government’s cuts to education and inaction for quality mental health services,” Clarke said. “It’s time for a government that puts people first. I’m committed to advocating for improvements in education, better care for our seniors, and transitioning to more renewable energy.”

“The people of Saskatchewan deserve a government that will stop the cuts and invest in the programs we rely on like healthcare and education,” said Grewal. “The Sask. Party government is making life harder for all of us, and it’s time for a government that puts people first. PRINCE ALBERT – The Saskatchewan New Democrats in the Prince Albert Carlton constituency have chosen educator Troy Parenteau to be their candidate for the next provincial election. Parenteau won a contested nomination in Prince Albert this evening.

“As a teacher, I am proud to stand as a New Democrat against the devastating cuts we’ve seen to our classrooms,” said Parenteau. “New Democrats put people first, and I’ll be working tirelessly to earn the support of the people of Prince Albert Carlton.”
