ALL HAT, NO MARSHAL
SCOTT MOE WASTED OVER $40,000 ON HATS FOR NON-EXISTENT MARSHALS
REGINA – Scott Moe and the Sask. Party wasted $41,151.15 on campaign hats for their controversial and non-existant Marshal service — even though not a single Marshal has been hired.
“Scott Moe’s marshals program is all hat, no marshal,” said Nicole Sarauer, Saskatchewan NDP candidate for Regina Douglas Park.
“Instead of investing in frontline officers and getting tough on the causes of crime, Scott Moe and the Sask. Party have spent tens of thousands of taxpayer dollars purchasing fancy hats for non-existent officers. Families are worried about safety in their communities and all that Scott has delivered is overpriced hats for officers who would not be hired for another two years.”A request for proposals was issued on April 16, 2024, to invite submissions for “the provision of campaign hats for Marshals Service Officers”. On July 2, 2024 the contract was awarded to Calgary based company 5 Star Services and Products Ltd, for $41,151.15.
This means that Saskatchewan taxpayers are paying $587 for each hat that will sit in storage until 2026, which is when Moe says the Marshalls will be in place.
“Scott Moe and the Sask. Party have failed the people of Saskatchewan when it comes to public safety, ” Sarauer said. “If elected, Carla Beck and the Saskatchewan NDP will scrap the wasteful and redundant Marshals, invest in RCMP and local police, and get tough on the causes of crime. We will invest in protecting communities — not $600 hats.”
Carla Beck and the Saskatchewan NDP have a real plan to address the Sask. Party public safety crisis, by hiring 200 new frontline police officers, investing in mental health and addiction services, and giving families, small businesses and places of worship a rebate for security upgrades.
Carla Beck’s full plan can be found at: saskndp.ca/plan.
“The people of Saskatchewan can vote for a government that invests in making communities safer and stronger instead of investing in hats, by electing Carla Beck and the Saskatchewan NDP.” Sarauer said.
