BECK TO BUILD NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FOR MOOSE JAW
SHOVELS IN THE GROUND BY END OF 2025
MOOSE JAW – Today, Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck promised to build a new elementary school to replace St. Michael in Moose Jaw.
“Holy Trinity School Division and the Moose Jaw community have been calling on the Sask. Party for a new school for four years and they still haven't delivered. Moose Jaw is being taken for granted and it's time for a change,” said Beck. “I’m going to get this thing built. It’s time to get Saskatchewan out of last place on education.”
Beck committed to requesting and reviewing Holy Trinity Catholic School Divisions proposals for the school on day one of the new government. She wants shovels in the ground by the end of 2025.
St. Michael School, built in 1956, is overdue for replacement. It has significant structural issues like cracks, poor ventilation, outdated plumbing, undersized student washrooms and insufficient staff parking.
Holy Trinity previously petitioned the Sask. Party for a new school, listing it as a top capital project priority almost every year since 2020, but the Sask. Party government has not delivered.
Sask. Party MLA Tim McLeod has a history of ignoring the concerns of Moose Jaw residents, and Moose Jaw’s other MLA, Greg Lawrence, is representing himself in court against criminal charges for assault.
The new school for Moose Jaw is part of Beck's plan to reverse Scott Moe’s cuts to education and get Saskatchewan out of last place on education.
Beck kicked off her campaign last week with a guarantee to not raise taxes and will soon release a fully-costed platform that balances the budget in four years.
