The Legislature returned this week — and we got straight to work. Here’s what your Saskatchewan NDP team got done this week:
- Called out Moe’s failed trade strategy and introduced legislation to boost interprovincial trade and strengthen local jobs
- Exposed dangerous health care cuts — and pushed solutions to fix ER shutdowns and staff shortages.
- Stood with Northern families demanding a full, independent wildfire inquiry.
- Fought for affordability — from rent relief to cutting taxes on essentials as food bank use skyrockets.
- Introduced legislation to require public reporting of ER closures and protect patient safety.

Sask. Party Blocks Independent Public Wildfire Inquiry
The Sask. Party blocked an independent public inquiry into the full extent of their failure to respond and manage the wildfires. The independent public inquiry the Saskatchewan NDP pushed for in an emergency motion would have been fully independent of government and could have been led by a former judge. Members of the Cabinet and senior leaders of government agencies responsible for the wildfire response could have been subpoenaed to testify at public tribunals.

Saskatchewan NDP Introduces Bill To Lift Interprovincial Trade Barriers, Make Life More Affordable
Bill 605, The Free Trade within Canada (Mutual Recognition) Act, will make it easier for goods and services to move between Saskatchewan and the rest of Canada by allowing for recognition of similar rules and standards in other provinces.
MLA Breckner’s bill protects our Crown Corporations and ensures local companies and workers can be prioritized on government projects. The key difference between the NDP’s bill and the government’s bill is that MLA Breckner’s explicitly excludes changes that would weaken occupational health and safety standards that protect workers.
