Field Notes - October 27, 2025

The Legislature returned for the Fall Session this week.

In this edition: Our Throne Speech response, the growing healthcare crisis, Moe’s continued failed leadership on trade, tariffs and our economy, and the Sask NDP continue to propose ideas to build a better future for Saskatchewan…

Sask. Party Throne Speech Offers Nothing – Nothing To Help Healthcare, Cost-of-Living or Tariffs

“The people of Saskatchewan are looking for hope and a plan to build a bright future, not a government that denies the reality they’re facing day in and day out.” - Carla Beck

The Sask. Party Is Trying To Privatize — AGAIN

“For 18 years the Sask. Party has politicized SaskPower. Anytime they start talking about ownership, I get nervous. We’ve seen this story before. ‘Reviewing power ownership’ – that's code for privatization,” - Aleana Young

Later this fall, the NDP will release an alternative to the Sask. Party’s so-called plan.

Young said the Sask NDP ‘Grid and Growth Plan’ will lay out a solution that evaluates a mix of energy alternatives, including renewables, nuclear, and natural gas generation. The NDP will also explore and evaluate the business case for large-scale nuclear generation.

Sask NDP calls for workplace safety probe at RUH

“This is horrifying — the emergency department at Royal University Hospital looks like a warzone,” Nathaniel Teed

Four hundred and fifty nurses, doctors, and medical directors sounded the alarm — releasing a public letter describing horrific conditions inside Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital.

We’ve called on the Minister responsible for Workplace Safety Jim Reiter to launch an emergency investigation into the conditions at Royal University Hospital.

Scott Moe Needs to Punch Back over Trump Trade Escalation

The Sask. Party government rolled back its pro-Canada procurement policy and also put American booze back on the shelves in early June.

U.S. tariffs remain on Saskatchewan goods like steel and lumber, and in some cases have increased since the Sask. Party flip-flopped on their tariff response.

The Saskatchewan NDP is calling on the Sask. Party to immediately restore its pro-Canada procurement policy and take American liquor back off the shelves.

The NDP is also calling on the provincial and federal governments to aggressively ramp up trade-enabling infrastructure projects, such as rail lines, pipelines, power lines, and highways, to get Saskatchewan goods to new markets.

“Trump is a bully and bullies only respect strength. This guy is taking our lunch money, and Scott Moe is essentially offering to make him a sandwich.” - Carla Beck

Axe the Tax: End the Grocery Tax Now

Axe the grocery tax poster

The Saskatchewan NDP is demanding an immediate end to the Sask. Party tax on groceries as new data reveals families in the province were hit with the biggest increase in the cost of food in August.

As well, on top of food costs, the rate of rent in Saskatchewan has risen dramatically, three times the rate of inflation — the province has seen eight straight months of rent increases. In response, the Saskatchewan NDP plans to introduce rent control legislation during the Fall Sitting.

The Sask. Party Government doesn’t care about families being forced to choose between buying food or paying their rent.
