SASK. PARTY MINISTER FIRES WHISTLEBLOWER TO SUPPORT SASK PARTY DONORS
REGINA - After multiple Sask. Party investigations for corruption this last year, recent reporting shows yet another example of Sask. Party scandal where a whistleblower at the Saskatchewan Research Council was fired to help out a board member of the SRC who is connected to a company that is a Sask. Party donor.
“A whistleblower was fired — it helped out someone connected to a Sask. Party donor — and the minister responsible knew about it,” says Meara Conway, NDP candidate for Regina Elphinstone. “The level of corruption we have seen from the Sask. Party just continues to grow, and it is more clear than ever that the Sask. Party aren’t in this for you — they’re in it to help out their friends and insiders.
“We see corruption time and time again with the Sask. Party. This is why voters are looking for change. Carla Beck and the Saskatchewan NDP are ready to be that change.”
A whistleblower at the SRC was fired after pointing out significant conflicts of interests at the crown corporation — some of which include Micheal Meekins, the CEO of Westbridge Capital, a board member of the SRC, and a Sask. Party donor. Further questions are now being raised as Jeremy Harrison, the Sask. Party minister responsible for the crown corporation has provided an account of the situation that is contradicted by internal documents.
“The Sask. Party is lying to cover up their scandals, and this isn’t a one-off situation,” says Conway. “ Whether it’s Jeremy Cockrill in North Battleford, who’s under multiple conflict of interest investigations, or Gene Makowsky in Regina University, the minister responsible when a Sask. Party MLA received $750,000 of taxpayer money at a motel he owns, the laundry list of Sask. Party corruption just keeps getting longer.”
Carla Beck and the NDP have committed to investigate Sask. Party corruption and mismanagement with an accountability commission to review projects like the Sunrise Motel, the AIMS system, the Global Transportation Hub, and the Regina Bypass.
