Brar to be the New Democrat Candidate in Regina Pasqua for 2020

Bhajan Brar was nominated as the Saskatchewan New Democrat candidate for Regina Pasqua this evening. Brar was one of five Saskatchewan NDP candidates nominated tonight as members across the province voted virtually, in a historic first. Brar won a contested nomination with hundreds of members voting online or by phone.

“During this crisis we have gratefully watched as selfess frontline workers acted to keep us all safe,” said Brar. “Why do we allow them and their families to live in poverty or insecurity? Our government must put workers first, families first, people first.”

Educated in electrical engineering, Bhajan has worked as a senior electrical engineer, a journey-person electrician, and a power engineer. Bhajan has a great love for volunteerism and service to his neighbours. He is passionate about organizing members of his community to make change and create movements, and has volunteered his efforts to fundraise for various disaster relief efforts as well as in volunteering his time at the Food Bank and with Canadian Blood Services. Bhajan was born and raised in Punjab, India, and remains an active member of Regina’s Sikh community, where he volunteers at the Aid Station for the Queen City Marathon every year.

“Bhajan is tenacious and a hard worker,” said NDP Leader Ryan Meili. “He will make a very capable MLA when we form government, and will be an essential member of our campaign team during the upcoming election.”

Bhajan Brar, along with the four other candidates nominated this evening, brings the Saskatchewan NDP to thirty-six nominated candidates for the 2020 provincial election.
