Field Notes - November 19, 2025
As families struggle with one of the worst cost-of-living crises in the country, the Sask. Party is making life even harder — and our team has been fighting back every day.
They’ve issued a dangerous one-nurse emergency room policy that frontline workers say “creates the illusion of access to care while putting patients at risk.” Even the Minister’s own officials admitted the policy is a change and part of “standardizing” decisions about ER closures.
They’re refusing to release provincial waitlist numbers for addiction treatment. At the same time, nearly 270 people have already died from suspected drug toxicity this year, with people waiting weeks or months for just an initial assessment.
They’re gouging wildfire victims with unnecessary PST bills in the tens of thousands for cleanup and rebuilds — including reported PST charges of over $30,000 — prompting one homeowner to ask: “Why would the government profit off such a tragedy?”
They’ve allowed rents to rise 40 months in a row, up 24% in two years — the highest increase in Canada — while refusing to consider rent control as corporate landlords push families to the brink.
The Sask. Party’s 18 years of neglecting education has left 13 schools in “critical” condition and 132 in “poor” condition, according to a report released only after a freedom of information request.
And they’ve lied to Ukrainian students fleeing war, cutting the Ukrainian Tuition Program and blaming the federal government — nothing prevents the province from funding it. As student Ivan Teteria said: “I don’t know what my future holds if this program isn’t saved.” In Saskatchewan, we say, “We stand with Ukraine.” The Sask. Party has a chance to prove it, right now.
Meanwhile, your Saskatchewan NDP team is working every day to deliver big, bold solutions.

Saskatchewan NDP Introduces First-Of-Its-Kind Bill To Give Voice To Fransaskois Community

If passed, the bill would require formal consultation on any government action affecting Saskatchewan’s Fransaskois community and acknowledge historic hardships, including the suppression of French-language education and persecution by groups like the Ku Klux Klan.
A 2022 Advisory Committee report made seven recommendations to improve French education — many still unimplemented. This spring, conditions at École Boréale in Ponteix deteriorated so badly that families considered transferring to the English school for safety.
Roy’s bill would also recognize the Assemblée communautaire fransaskoise (ACF) as the official representative of Saskatchewan’s Francophone community.
APAS joins NDP concerns over foreign farmland ownership in Sask.
APAS says that the “current regulations and enforcement measures require significant strengthening,” including through a lease registration system, stronger penalties and enforcement, monitoring corporate entities, audits of ownership records, and compliance declarations.
The Saskatchewan NDP is calling on the Sask. Party government to stop dismissing the serious concerns of producers and immediately work with them to implement the reforms, resources, and enforcement measures needed to crack down on illegal foreign farmland ownership.
