Saskatoon Teacher Gillian Strange Tapped to Challenge Wyant in Saskatoon Northwest for 2020 Election

New Democrats in the constituency of Saskatoon Northwest nominated Gillian Strange to serve as their candidate for the 2020 election this evening in an online nomination meeting held on Zoom.

“The Sask. Party and Minister Wyant have left us with the worst school reopening plan in Canada,” said Strange. “The long delays, refusal to address class size, and offloading on to school divisions have caused nothing but uncertainty and fear for students, teachers and parents throughout the province. The people of Saskatchewan deserve a government that is committed to properly funding education, reducing class sizes and ensuring a safe return to school for Saskatchewan kids.”

A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, Gillian has spent 27 years teaching middle years students in her hometown of Saskatoon. She has served on the disciplinary committee, curriculum development committees, and learning leadership groups with the Saskatoon Public School Division (SPSD). Her experiences teaching in many demographics of Saskatoon has led her to a strong understanding of the diverse needs of families, whether it be economic stability, health or education.

“Gillian has been a strong advocate for students, teachers and parents for many years, and will be a strong voice in the next NDP government as MLA for Saskatoon Northwest,” said NDP Leader Ryan Meili. “That commitment to bettering education for people in the province is something that has been sorely missing from Minister Wyant and the Sask. Party.”
